BEOC Working Group

The Business Emergency Operations Center (BEOC) Working Group was created after the success of CUSEC’s CAPSTONE-14 exercise, when the NISC worked with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) to transition the CAPSTONE-14 Private Sector Working Group to the NISC. The purpose of this working group is to develop a model operational framework for coordinating public-private sector emergency management functions with virtual business emergency operations center (BEOC) activities. Virtual BEOCs have emerged primarily because it is not always logistically possible for a private sector company to co-locate in a physical BEOC, especially in the case of a regional disaster.

Members of the BEOC Working Group include staff from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA), NISC support staff, and 12 representatives from 10 different companies in the retail, critical infrastructure, energy, and telecommunications industries. The co-chairs of the group are Jonathon Monken, NISC board member, and Rodney Cooper, Emergency Manager for the Sprint Corporation.
